Lissette Ochoa

Lissette Ochoa is Western University’s Academic Advisor in Pre-degree and Pathway programs. She has worked in academia for a little over five years and has fulfilled diverse roles in addition to advising students. Some of these roles included being the Coordinator of International Programs and Global Education and the Special Advisor to the President in Equity Diversity and Inclusion for Brescia University College. Prior to academia, Lissette worked with newcomers from all immigration statuses and in community development projects. Lissette is passionate about grass root research and supporting equity denied groups advocating for the decolonizing of systems and meaningful sustainable change. The empowerment of her students means the world to her and she navigates spaces she enters with love and care. Through the years she has been blessed to work with Indigenous students, colleagues and community members. She has also been blessed to work with students and families from all around the world. Through her experiences she has gained knowledge on various cultures which has led her to have a better understand of her students and their needs. She has tried her best to spread awareness among International students and newcomers over all, about the importance of developing respectful relationships with Indigenous communities. Lissette sits on various committees across the city and is a true believer that equity and inclusion work should not be done in siloes but as a united front led by the love for humanity.
