Mays Alwash has just completed her Ph.D. in molecular biology and cancer research at the University of Toronto. She worked on developing a molecular tool important for identifying unknown interactions happening on the cell surface. This is especially impactful in the field of immunotherapy, which has significantly improved the durable responses of many cancer patients over the last decade. Her work would contribute to diversifying immune checkpoints to target allowing a bigger cohort of patients to respond to these highly effective immunotherapy treatments. Mays also co-founded Yalla! Let’s Talk. a purpose-driven media company and events platform diversifying the Arab zillennial narrative by sharing stories that would otherwise go unheard, creating representation and sparking conversations on issues that are typically swept under the rug in the Arabic culture.
